Dachau was the first concentration camp established by the Nazis in 1933 and the only camp that functioned during the entire Third Reich period until 1945.
Many of the ruthless and cruel practices used by the Nazis throughout the Third Reich period originated from Dachau.
The KZ (Konzentrationslager/ concentration camp) was originally created for political prisoners but eventually included other opponents of the regime including priests, communists, Jews, homosexuals, Sinti/Roma people and other free thinkers.
For many in the Nazi administration, Dachau was the most important in the system and while in operation was a complete microcosm of the entire system. Future camps based their processes and standards on what was known as the ‘Dachau Model’.
Any tour to a memorial camp can be an emotional experience, so it’s important to go with a licensed guide. You will learn a lot, you can ask questions and have someone to share your thoughts with after the tour.
Please note that children 13 and under are not permitted onto the memorial site due to the content.
If I am not available for the tour then I have a small team of experienced licensed guides that can do the tour as well.
