Private Third
Reich Tour

The Rise of Hitler and National Socialism

Join my Third Reich tour to learn about the early events that ultimately led to the rise of National Socialism, Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich. On May 25th 1913, Adolf Hitler arrived in Munich for the first time. From the party’s creation in 1920 to the end of WW2, the city was the heart of the Nazi organisation. In 1934 Hitler titled Munich the ‘Capital of the Movement’.

The tour is split into two parts. The first part focuses on origins and understanding of symbolism, ideology, antisemitism, propaganda and destruction in Munich. The next part focuses on the life story of Adolf Hitler in chronological order from his birth in 1889, until he becomes the Chancellor of Germany in 1933. We will also talk about a few events that happened in Munich during the late 1930s and see some original Nazi architecture.

Throughout the tour I will  share a lot of photos, pictures and interesting facts. We always take a short 15 minute break in the middle and at the end of the tour I can give you a list of book recommendations upon request.

Prepare yourself for a respectable presentation, as I do have a personal family connection to this part of history. Watch the video below so you can understand why I think it is important to keep talking about this part of history.

This tour is for people with zero to a moderate knowledge on this topic.

We were a group of family and friends enjoying Munich and Jake tailored a tour taking in the sights of Munich and the history of the city with a focus on the third reich. Aileen was a wonderful tour guide giving a great sweep of the history of Munich and highlighting the courageous people who stood up to the nazis. We were delighted with the narrative from history to the present day -really well informed and passionate, thank you xx

We had a wonderful morning with Jax. He took us through an array of fascinating information regarding Munich and Hitler. We were with our two children and he was able to pitch the stories really well to appeal to everyone. He also opened our eyes to aspects and small memorials in Munich that we would never have noticed or found out ourselves. I would highly recommend the tour.

I brought my 14 year old son along on this tour, and Jax's method of conveying this historical knowledge with both a personal touch and understanding of historical locations made it a very enjoyable and enriching experience for both of us. NB: If you can keep a teenager engaged and interested in a walking history tour in the hot munich summer sun, then you know it is done well.

We greatly enjoyed our tour with Jax. He was very personable, knowledgeable, and the tour was given in a thoughtful manner including facts we didn't know and showing up places we would not have found on our own. He included photos that brought the history to life and we enjoyed our short break for coffee in the middle. I highly recommend this tour!

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

I will always try to personally be your tour guide. In the case that I am not free, I have a group of local and experienced guides who will do the tour instead of me. Please remember that the tour will be different from mine with a different style as each guide has a different approach to this subject but we will all cover events that happened in Munich.

The tour starts at Marienplatz, the centre square of Munich. Just inside the entrance of the New Town Hall (‘Neues Rathaus’).

The tour ends at Königsplatz, which is a 10 minute walk to the main train station or Karlsplatz. I can also recommend a few restaurants at the end of the tour and help you get where you need to go.

3 hours is the minimum amount of time we need to get a general understanding of the topics we are going to discuss. We also need to walk around the city and have time for a 15 minute break.

You will leave the tour with a better understanding of Hitler’s journey to power so that you can visit Berlin and continue the story from 1933 – 1945.

Yes! We run it all year round. In winter I will either get you indoors or under cover for most of the stops on the tour.

Make sure you prepare accordingly as average temperatures in winter (Dec-March) are sometimes as low as -5C/23F.

Most guests that take this tour are actually families who want their children to learn more about this part of history. I make sure that the tour is catered to the child’s age and ask them questions to make them feel included in the conversation.

Comfortable walking shoes, a camera/phone to take pictures and a bottle of water. We always do a short 15 minute break in the middle if you need food/drink or a toilet stop.

Munich is a very flat city and almost completely pedestrianised, so this tour is wheelchair accessible.

The only stop on the tour which is not wheelchair accessible is the top floor of the Hofbräuhaus. Therefore we will stay on the ground floor and I will share pictures instead.

Tips are always completely voluntary. If you felt like the guide gave extra value to the tour then you can thank them with a tip.
