Private Neuschwanstein Castle Tour

Neuschwanstein Castle sits in one of the most spectacular locations in the world. Located on the Bavarian foothills of the Alps mountain range, an incredibly scenic area changing throughout the seasons.

It’s no wonder that a cartoonist named Walt from the United States was inspired by the mystery of the castle. Neuschwanstein surprises with it’s unique architecture outside and equally fascinating decor inside.

During the tour we will walk around the beautiful area of Schwangau while I talk in detail about Ludwig’s childhood, becoming the King, building the castle and his mysterious death.

King Ludwig II died mysteriously before his 41st birthday and is now the most recognisable monarch in Bavarian history. He was a fascinating character and his palaces Neuschwanstein, Linderhof and Herrenchiemsee are visited all year round.

I have visited Neuschwanstein castle around 250 times, so I know the best way to enjoy the area and will make sure you have a fun, stress free day trip from Munich.

Contact me below and let’s start organising your visit to the beautiful Bavarian countryside.

Private Neuschwanstein tour - well worth the time for this tour. Started at 9.15 with a 2 hour train journey to Füssen. The time went quick with Jax providing a lot of history and stories. The history of Neuschwanstein was provided throughout the day and being a small group of 4 it was easy to hear, ask questions and never did we feel rushed. The whole day was magical. The stories we heard seem to come to life within the castle. A fantastic day with a fantastic guide. Thank you so much

Last weekend we were fortunate to have 2 private tours with Heart of Munich Tours. Day 2 saw Jax himself also pick us up promptly from our hotel and head off on the train Neuschwanstein Castle. Jax too is friendly and engaging, and he slowly revealed the very intriguing story of the castle. We really enjoyed his easy going manner and patience as we took all of the information in. Both days were really great, we felt well taken care of and both guides unpacked the history of the day in such a way thst we could retain what we had learnt. We loved all the food and sightseeing recommendations, we did follow their advice and it was right on the money.

We came here from Arizona, U.S.A. where it is warm right now and it is very cold here. Jax was so great as a tour guide, that he warmed us up by being very friendly, approachable and with the very informative historical facts that he presented to us. I would highly recomend him as a tour guide! He loves history, his job and it shows!

Any visit to Neuschwanstein would be spectacular, but going as a group with our tour guide Jax made it even more so. Jax was an excellent storyteller, describing the history of the building and its mysterious architect King with great suspenseful segments right from the train journey to Fussen up to the castle itself. He even brought a tablet full of pictures and portraits to compliment the stories.

I would definitely recommend this tour for anyone considering seeing the Neushwanstein castle! There is nothing quite like it, and it's easy to see how it influenced Disney!! Our tour guide Jax was also great!! He was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable storyteller, as we learned about the history around Bavaria, the castle and King Ludwig II. Although it is a small enough town to walk around on your own, being on the tour gave us the opportunity to learn a lot of interesting information we would not have otherwise learned. Although the weather was gloomy and crummy, it still made for a great visit. This is definitely a tour worth considering on your trip to Munich, and if you get Jax as your tour guide.. even better!

I got to see the magnificent castle. It was the highlight of my trip to Munich! What's more, I got to know more about the background history of the castle! All thanks to our fantastic tour guide, Mr. Jax! His great storytelling enriched the tour! I also appreciate that on our hike up to the castle, he made a few stops not only to tell us the story behind the castle but also let us take a brief rest. He also gave us a little challenge to find a unicorn in the castle, which made the tour itself even more fun. He promised to buy a beer for the winner and he did!

Our tour guide Jax taught us history that I hadn’t previously known about King Ludwig II. He kept my three daughters interested through pictures and his information. I would recommend this tour for families 🙂 We had enough time to sightsee on our own as well. Even though I had been 3 times before, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I did this tour on April 22nd and we lucked out with beautiful sunny weather. Jax was the guide and he was great with tons of interesting information to share. It was a long day from Munich with the tour lasting 9 hours or so but it was worth the trip. The castle is stunning both inside and out and the history of it is really unique. Definitely recommend doing this tour!

I was in Munich in July and went on the Neuschwanstein Castle tour with Jax. It was a wonderful experience. It was nice to get out of the city for the day and the country side was absolutely beautiful. I really enjoyed the hiking and it was a perfect balance of structure and free time. Jax was an awesome tour guide, super knowledgeable, fun, and always making sure everyone was enjoying themselves. I highly recommend taking a day to go on this trip while in Munich.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

I will always try to personally be your tour guide. In the case that I am not free, I have a group of local and experienced guides who will do the tour instead of me.

Once tickets for the tour inside the castle have been purchased, they cannot be changed or refunded. This is the policy of the ticket shop. If you change the date of the tour then you will have to pay for the tickets again.

At ‘Hauptbahnhof’, the central train station of Munich.

The tour includes 4.5 hours of travel time, so we need the remaining 5.5 hours to enjoy everything the castle area has to offer. Most tour companies leave at 4.30pm but I stay for an extra hour to be able to see everything without rushing. If we have any extra time be can also go for a short walk through the town of Füssen.

Please note: In winter we do leave earlier due to the shorter darker days, colder temperatures, and closed Mary’s bridge and Pöllat Gorge.

Yes! We run the tour all year round but be aware that the day is one hour shorter and we will be mostly outside from 12 – 5pm. The Waterfall path and some shops will also be closed.

Make sure you prepare accordingly as average temperatures in winter (Dec-March) are sometimes as low as -5C/23F but can go down to -10/14F at the castle.

Absolutely, this is a tour perfect for families to visit the original ‘Disney Castle’. Please let me know how many children you have and their ages when enquiring.

Comfortable walking shoes, a camera/phone to take pictures and a bottle of water. During the colder seasons you need to wear enough warm clothing as it have be -10c by the mountains.

There are a few shops to purchase snacks and drinks around the castle area but feel free to bring food from Munich train station.

It certainly is but please let me know before booking as I will need to inform the castle staff that we will need to use the elevators inside the castle.

To get up to the castle once we arrive, we can take the shuttle bus up to Mary’s bridge, which is included in the tour. Then we will walk 15 minutes downhill enjoying the views of the mountains and lakes on the way to the castle entrance for the tour.

After the tour inside, we will walk downhill for 30 minutes along the main road pathway or we can go back up and catch the bus.

Tips are always completely voluntary. If you felt like the guide gave extra value to the tour then you can thank them with a tip.
